Today’s thought comes courtesy of the Irish playwright, George Bernard Shaw. He said, “We don’t stop playing because we grow old, we grow old because we stop playing.” He lived to the ripe old age of 94. Perhaps he practiced what he preached. Can you combine physical activity with a sense of play? If it feels too much like work, most of us will have trouble continuing.

“Just” 30 minutes of physical activity a day is evidently enough to bring great rewards of improved health and brain activity and “youthing”, among other benefits. The catch, of course, is that “just”. Some days 30 minutes is easy. Other days they might as well be talking about walking on the moon. If getting in 30 minutes looks just impossible, what is a possible amount for you today to move in the direction of all those wonderful benefits?

It is possible to exercise consistently without losing weight. This doesn’t mean you won’t feel better about yourself and your appearance. Some people drop a size or two without seeing the scale change. Muscle weighs more than fat. A greater sense of well-being weighs nothing! More energy weighs nothing!

It’s okay to be where you are. This is a good thing, since you can’t be anywhere else. Make your exercise choices from this place and they’ll work better. While you move, you can imagine and envision and anticipate being at another stage, but start where you actually are.

Exercise can wake up your body and help you feel more energized and less tired. The University of Georgia reviewed 70 studies and found that people who work out have more energy than non exercisers.
